Valuable Advice and a Great Honour

I received an email 10 days ago from Fran Cumming here in Halifax that I have to share with you. Fran is the Sales and Marketing Manager for ReCover Journals
www.recoverjournals.ca and she has participated in my full day workshop “Ring Ring – I Am Cold Calling!” Here’s what she wrote to me:

Dear Mary Jane,
Last November I attended your phone workshop on cold calling at the Best Western Hotel, Chocolate Lake, Halifax and came away feeling eager and enthusiastic about putting what I had learned to use. During the evaluation at the end of the workshop I said I felt the most valuable thing I had learned was how to ask open ended questions during a “cold” call. While I still believe that was an important part of the workshop now, after a few months of actually putting into practice the things you taught me, I’d have to say the most valuable lesson was to never ever give up. In the past, after eight to ten phone calls if I didn’t come away with an order, I would decide that either I was wasting my time on someone who wasn’t interested, or that I was bothering that person. However, during your workshop you cautioned us to “never give up”, and now I don’t stop calling unless I receive a definite “no” or “not interested”. I have gotten three new customers with that approach! Thank you so much for helping make that happen.

Thanks, Fran, for taking the time to write. It is wonderful to hear how the skill set is being used to achieve success. The “Ring Ring” workshop is being held again in September (because we’ll all need a kick start after our lazy, hazy days of summer) and there is a discount on the cost for those that register by August 23. And I’m thrilled to share other news! On June 24 I became the recipient of this year’s Pam Langille Memorial Award. Presented by Entrepreneur’s with Disabilities (EDN), it “recognizes an individual who has volunteered their time, knowledge and expertise selflessly to EDN.” Pam, who passed away last year, was the founding Executive Director of EDN and well known for her enthusiasm, humour, empathy, and love of humanity. I am deeply honoured to have received this award and want everyone at EDN to know … I think you are GREAT!!!

Best wishes to everyone for a fabulous first week of July. Happy phonework! TPL
